Dr. Bump at a glance...
Dr. Christopher J. Bump is first and foremost a healer of the whole individual, offering a truly holistic approach to medicine, concerned with not only eliminating symptoms but also creating a total health and well-being plan for each patient. His goal, to touch the lives of people and make them better, has led Dr. Bump on an interesting journey, resulting in his practice today of “functional medicine”—with a twist.
Accepted into the “Harvard” of chiropractic schools, Palmer College, Christopher Bump studied with a mission, earning the distinct honor of being the Clinic Intern Director, which is a full scholarship position overseeing other doctors in the school’s health clinic, and graduating at the top of his class in 1982. His early training in the treatment of pain and injury from a structural perspective laid the foundation for his current work.
Most recently, Dr. Bump has earned a Master’s Degree in human nutrition from Columbia University (2010), presenting his thesis on gluten sensitivity years before “gluten-free” was popular. Having studied nutritional biochemistry and clinical nutrition, he can see the interaction of all the organs, glands, tissues and systems of the body, a vital skill when diagnosing and treating.
His interest in “food as medicine” dates back to the early 70’s when he began reading Adele Davis, Paul Bragg and Bernard McFadden, to name a few. These early pioneers sparked an interest in alternative live style, healthy eating and herbal and nutritional medicine for Dr. Bump that remains a passion to this day.
Once set on the path to being a healer, Dr. Bump has remained open to new and alternative approaches, for example, earning a certification in clinical acupuncture. He will probably always be learning new ways.
